Summary: research work connected to Barcelona security/insecurity levels. This object of study has acquired in the last years a decisive importance linked to different factors: on the one hand, the urban growth of the city, promoted by the process of modernization it suffered for the Olympic Games in 1992. On the other hand, the presence of new groups of citizens, such as the migrants, has caused a certain demographic change in the urban population. At the same time, the promulgation of new law in the last years, both at a national and an autonomous level, together with the recent information about a possible increase of crime and misdemeanours rates throughout mass media, are all them factors that provoke a special attention to the matter of the duo urban security/insecurity. This study was developed in collaboration with the cities of Athens, Rome and Brussels.
